As quickly as things seemed to come together, they also seemed to fall apart. My family had worked hard to build the life we wanted. Rather than giving up when things got tough, I adapted to a new dream and discovered an incredible career along the way.
Not long before she passed, I asked my mom to put in a good word for me when it was her time to go. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that after five years of infertility, an endometriosis diagnosis, and two surgeries, I finally became pregnant with my precious baby girl. It broke my heart that my mom was not able to meet my baby, Emma, but I believe she was involved in finally having my dream of motherhood become a reality.
I briefly considered balancing motherhood with part-time work, but I felt a strong calling to be fully present raising my new baby. With the support of my husband, Johnny, we made a leap of faith to allow me to become a full-time mom. This was a big decision. I gave up my steady income and Johnny took the lead. He owned a printing company, and his pay fluctuated, so we had to make a few sacrifices, but I am grateful for the decision we made.
After I had my son, Sammy, we built a beautiful home we loved. However, it was 2008. The recession hit us hard. My husband lost several clients and had to drastically cut back his business until he was running the entire operation from a home office. I taught myself design and began selling stationery to supplement our income while raising our kids. We made it work for several years, but ultimately decided to downsize and dissolve the printing company. Johnny had gotten his real estate license during that time and listed our home himself. He showed it to just one family and they scooped it up, so we were packing our boxes and moving out before anyone was ready to say goodbye.
During the transition, we were concerned about the best school options for our kids. We’d heard about Logos Prep Academy, a university school model, and it aligned perfectly with our values, but we felt it was out of reach financially. God had a plan though. While volunteering for Emma’s summer camp, another mom encouraged me to reconsider Logos. We had a small cushion from selling our home, so we took another leap of faith. With the green light of her acceptance, we trusted that we’d be able to make the tuition payments and enrolled.
Now, the writing was on the wall: I needed to get a job! My previous work had been in an office, and I cringed at the thought of being trapped at a desk all day. I needed to be available as mom and oversee homeschool days too. I had to have something flexible. Johnny suggested I join him in the moderate real estate work he was doing. Initially, I resisted, but eventually agreed to get my license to support him. We decided to go ALL IN on building a real estate business together. After working with some sweet clients, showing tons of homes and closing several deals that first year, I realized I could actually wear the many hats of a real estate agent and loved the experience!
I’m so glad I found my way to becoming an agent. It is the perfect fit for me combining my desire to help people, negotiate great deals and have flexibility to balance work and home life. I love being the advocate for my clients and friends during their housing changes. One of the best things is that we often stay friends and I get to continue being a resource and a part of their lives. Caring for my clients is very important to me so I always strive to be available and put my heart into all I do.
Not too long ago, I helped some client friends purchase a new home and, in this crazy market, we were one of 26 offers. We were selected partly because I sold the listing agent and sellers on my clients. They wanted to work with me to make my clients’ dreams come true.
The husband didn't see the house until they were moving in and was amazed by how perfect it was. While still unpacking, they didn’t have all their dishes out yet but wanted some coffee. One of them found the coffee cup I had included in their welcome gift, and it made them think of me, so they sent a little message of appreciation. They attributed their getting the house to the “Dimicelli secret sauce” and that all my efforts were so important in making it happen for them. Those little moments make this job worth all the tough days.
My clients inspire me to work harder and love what I do even more. That’s why our motto is “putting our hearts into your home.”
Sincerely,
Sharon Dimicelli
